Parkinson’s Awareness Month: Why it matters deeply to us

April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month — a time to honor the millions of individuals and families living with Parkinson’s disease and to recognize the organizations, caregivers, and advocates fighting for better outcomes and a better future.

At TrustHouse, this month holds special meaning. Over the years, we've had the privilege of caring for several hundred individuals living with Parkinson’s. Behind every case is a unique story of courage and a family doing its best to navigate a challenging diagnosis with love, hope, and a need for support.

We made it our mission early on to become the best at what we do when it comes to Parkinson’s care. That commitment led us to become the first Parkinson’s Foundation Community Partner in New York, a milestone that still fills us with pride.

Our approach has always been about more than just managing symptoms. It’s about building trust, creating safety, and giving people their dignity back. Parkinson’s is a progressive disease but we’ve seen firsthand how the right kind of support can transform a person’s quality of life.

We’ve been fortunate to care for so many, including Michael J. Fox, who has been open about his journey and generous in his praise of our team. He recently shared these words:

I’ve benefited from the caregiving services of Alliance over the past couple of years and I’m quite satisfied and confident in recommending their services to anyone else, particularly anyone with Parkinson’s-related issues. They’re quite serious and thorough and a pleasure to be with. Home care is very demanding and intuitive and each of the aides and nurses have served me well over this time, and always made me feel safe and secure.

It’s hard to express how much that means to all of us who do this work. Because caregiving, especially for someone with Parkinson’s, is demanding, intuitive, and deeply human. Our nurses, aides, care coordinators, and entire team take that responsibility seriously every single day.

This April, we urge you to support the Parkinson's Foundation and The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research for the incredible work they continue to do, from funding life-changing research to providing resources and advocacy for families in need.

And if you or someone you know is living with Parkinson’s, reach out. Whether you’re looking for expert in-home nursing care or simply need guidance, we’re here to help. No one should face this alone.

Let’s raise awareness. Let’s support families. And let’s keep pushing for better.
